PHOENIX, September 14 – In a deal finalized September 1, Volterra Architectural Products acquired Bakken Moulding, Inc., allowing the Mesa, AZ company to preserve it’s name, products and reputation as a leading source for hardwood millwork in the Valley since 1984.

Faced with unmanageable overhead expenses, increased material costs and a depressed construction market, Bakken was on track to close or sell this year, leaving five employees jobless and customers left to find other sources for their products when Volterra owner Tim Williams proposed the sale.

“The acquisition of Bakken makes sense for our company,” said Williams. “Our primary customer base consists of home builders, designers, architects and commercial contractors. The addition of hardwood moulding and millwork products is a perfect fit for our company and we are excited to offer our customers an even more diverse product lineup.” Williams added that the existing plant is in an excellent position to take on the manufacturing of these real wood products which includes both stock and custom baseboards, crown mouldings, chair rails, corbels and casings. The millwork products will continue to carry the Bakken name.

The financial arrangements of the acquisition are not being disclosed, however, Volterra has purchased the majority of the machines, vehicles and manufacturing equipment from Bakken, and the factory move to the Volterra plant was completed August 22nd. Additionally, Volterra has retained all Bakken employees who will continue in their current capacity.

In business since 2002 and currently employing 17 people, Volterra is a manufacturer of
architectural products including faux wood beams, corbels and planking; flexible
moulding and beam straps, interior plasters and finish products; exterior stucco; and
accessories such as non-functional shutters, tile vents and scuppers. Bakken had been a long-time customer of Volterra, purchasing flexible moulding products.

The moulding and millwork operation is currently operational and customers are being serviced at Volterra Architectural Products, 1902 N. 22nd Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85009. To find out more about Volterra, please visit www.volterraproducts.com. For information about the acquisition or to arrange an interview with Tim Williams, please contact Beth Williams, 602-619-0721.

In my 19 years of manufacturing and distributing Stucco and EIFS I thought I had seen it all. These pictures are taken from a school which has EIFS on it and the rocks that are embedded in it were used like “throwing stars”. The EPS foam is 1″ thick and has high impact mesh ran 8′ up the wall and then standard 4 1/2″ oz mesh over the entire wall. The rock did penetrate through the high impact stucco but the kids found it easier to stick them above that area. This would have been a better job for the use of traditional stucco.
